Olympic women’s curling begins Wednesday (extremely late Tuesday evening in North America) with Team USA playing Japan at 12:05 a.m. ET. Defending gold medal winner Canada’s first game will be against 2014 bronze medalists Great Britain at 6:05 a.m. ET. The top four teams after the 10-team round-robin will advance to a playoff. NBC Sports will be streaming every game online live. It’s going to be a magical two weeks. With that in mind, here’s a preview of each team from Deadspin curling correspondent Matt Sussman and British Columbia-based curler and comedian John Cullen. Team Canada is projected to eat everyone else’s souls, to the extent that one can do that in curling. Some people are fans of the Tennessee Titans. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Tennessee Titans. This 2015 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Your team: Tennessee Titans Your 2014 record: 2-14. That includes blowing a 28-3 lead to Cleveland. At home. “ I’M PISSED OFF. HOW ABOUT THAT?!” Your coach: Ken Whisenhunt. EVERYONE BEATS THE WHIZ. When are people gonna stop giving this man quarterbacks to ruin? Jake Locker RETIRED this offseason. Jake Locker is 19 years old. He had to retire because Whiz coaches all his quarterbacks to plant your face in the defender’s chest prior to releasing the ball. Classic throwing motion. Good thing they didn’t draft another slender, speedy quarterback who might be similarly frail! Oh wait… Your quarte…
Yes, everyone's favorite lizard conversationalist, Darren Daulton, has a website to promote his metaphysics "starter kit" so everyone can be prepared for falling buildings, tidal waves, and John Cusack's erratic piloting. [ Dutch2012.com] …
This is what the aftermath sounded like to Cody Parkey: Kickers say they only get noticed when they screw up, and just because that’s an old chestnut doesn’t mean it’s not painfully true. And Parkey, who donged a 43-yard potential game-winning field goal off the upright and the crossbar to send the Eagles to the divisional round with a 16-15 win and send the Bears home, has been noticed a lot this year. Parkey missed 10 kicks during the regular season (three of them extra points), including a Week 10 game against the Lions in which he hit the uprights four separate times. How bad did things get? That week, Parkey mentioned he was going to take some nighttime practice kicks, so a local news station dispatched a helicopter to Soldier Field, before the Bears invoked the rules on fi…
data-mm-id=”_jp91018ge”>Seymour Siwoff, the longtime owner of the Elias Sports Bureau, died at the age of 99, the company announced:This afternoon the Elias family lost its visionary leader. Seymour Siwoff passed away at the age of 99. Seymour is a legend who transformed the company into what it is today.— Elias Sports Bureau (@EliasSports) November 29, 2019It's hard to overstate how significant Elias Sports Bureau is in the way we all watch, read, and learn about sports. Any time you hear something like, "Lamar Jackson is the first player in NFL HISTORY with four TD passes and at least 50 yards rushing in consecutive games," there's a high probability that stat originated with Elias. (This one indeed did.) My father went to Wesleyan University with Chris Thorn, …
data-mm-id=”_atkz0tkic”>The fantasy football playoffs are creeping closer. Here are five players who could give you that extra boost you need to secure a crucial win as everyone battles for a playoff spot. (All stats via ESPN standard PPR leagues)1. Ryan Griffin, TE, New York Jets (Available in 98 percent of ESPN Leagues)Dallas Cowboys v New York Jets / Al Pereira/Getty ImagesThe Jets have seen a bit of a resurgence from their offense over the last few weeks, even if it was against weak competition. Griffin has been one of the main beneficiaries of this resurgence, especially this past week, in which he caught five passes for 109 yards and a touchdown to total 21.9 fantasy points. Sam Darnold likes targeting his tight ends, and will be going up against another average unit in Oakland …
data-mm-id=”_hqnkck6dy”>The XFL has made it two weeks. While many positives exist, the same can't be said for about half of the teams. Here are The Big Lead's XFL Power Rankings through Week 2:8. Tampa Bay Vipers (0-2)Tampa Bay Vipers / Abbie Parr/Getty ImagesThere are only eight teams, which makes it possible for a 0-2 team to rebound. Simultaneously, everything that occurred after the Viper's 9-0 lead this week was bad news. Tampa Bay has only scored nine points this season. And, based on their play, that is an overachievement. They continue to rotate quarterbacks and none of them have even been decent.7. New York Guardians (1-1)Matt McGloin / Scott Taetsch/Getty ImagesNew York isn't winless but was atrocious this weekend. The Guardians did nothing well in Week 2 …
data-mm-id=”_yyv1njbm4″>Can you believe Mayweather-Pacquaio was five full years ago? Like most things in right now's not-so-distant past, that seems both too recent and ages ago. How much would you give to watch The Kentucky Derby today and then finish your night off with a prize fight? What if I told you Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski did both in person? For normal people, you could watch those events on television. Throw in some second-round NBA playoff action and some random regular season baseball games and you just got lightheaded and passed out, didn't you?Considering our current situation, look at what Brady and Gronk did back in 2015. There was a huge sporting event where over 170,000 people gathered and ate and drank and gambled and they both went. Then they got on an …
data-mm-id=”_si26bakr4″>The country is in turmoil and sports seem like the least important thing right now. However, there is some relevance to what's been happening around the United States recently and something that happened in sports a few years ago. The Houston Chronicle highlighted that reality with a powerful cover photo on their Sunday sports section. Sunday's @HoustonChron Sports cover pic.twitter.com/A4P4VTx70e— Tom Fox (@foxt78) May 31, 2020Imagining a world where we focused on what Kaepernick was advocating for and not what he did, the Houston Chronicle skillfully weaves sports into the current state of society. It isn't easy to do. Outside of players commenting on the protests or Jaylen Brown joining them, sports don't feel connected to the more impor…
