Puncheon completes Palace loan move

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Jason Puncheon on a season-long loan from Southampton,

The move sees the 27 year old reunite with manager Ian Holloway, who he played for at Blackpool in a loan spell during the second half of the 2010/11 Premier League campaign.

The Eagles manager had stressed that he was looking to add more attack minded players before the transfer window closes, and with six goals from midfield last season, the former Plymouth Argyle man goes some way to filling the void left by Wilfred Zaha.

Puncheon played for Palace as a child, and has admitted that it is a dream come true to have the chance to play at Selhurst Park.

He is set to go straight into the match day squad for Saturday’s trip to Stoke City, where the clu…

Derby sack McClaren for second time in 22 months

Championship side Derby County have parted ways with head coach Steve McClaren for the second time in three seasons.

A damning statement from the Rams said the former England boss had overseen a significant, unexpected and persistent decline in results, team unity and morale .

Chairman Mel Morris added: Steve is a great coach, we have very talented players and first-class facilities but the heartbeat, commitment, focus and passion has been lacking something fundamental.

The Brighton game on Friday [a 3-0 defeat] was so far from what we expect to see from those wearing a Derby County shirt.

McClaren, whose first stint at Derby ended in May 2015, was reappointed last October after a stuttering start to the season under Nigel Pearson.

He won ni…

Julio Enciso stunner earns Brighton thrilling draw with champions Man City

Julio Enciso’s stunning leveller cemented Brighton’s place in next season’s Europa League as Manchester City’s Premier League winning run was halted at 12 games by a thrilling 1-1 draw.

The 19-year-old Paraguay forward unleashed a thunderous, swerving effort into the top right corner from 25 yards seven minutes before the break to mathematically guarantee Albion a sixth-placed finish.

Phil Foden put the newly-crowned champions ahead at the Amex Stadium with his fifth goal in as many starts against the Seagulls.

But, despite bringing back a host of big names, Pep Guardiola saw his formidable side drop points for the first time since February 18 after Erling Haaland’s 79th-minute header was disallowed due to VAR spotting a shirt pull on Levi Colwill.

Allegri unsure of Milan future

Milan coach Masimiliano Allegri has hinted he will not sign a new contract with the club until the end of the season.

The 46-year-old has been in charge of the club since June 2010, and agreed a new contract in January 2012.

That deal is due to expire in June and he admitted there will be no new deal until the campaign comes to a close and the club s performance has been analysed.

At the end of the season we will evaluate (the situation), he said.

If there are the conditions we will move forward, if we agree on everything else (I will be) the Milan coach, (otherwise) I will have another team.

The work must be assessed at the end of the season along with the company to see whether the original objectives have been achieved together at the beginning.

International Friendly Preview: England v Germany

England can gain a measure of revenge for their 2010 FIFA World Cup hammering at the hands of Germany when the two meet on Tuesday.

Controversy reigned in Bloemfontein when the sides last faced each other as an effort from Frank Lampard, which clearly landed over the line after bouncing down off the crossbar, was not given as a goal.

It would have brought the scores level at 2-2 in the second-round meeting, with Germany having surged into a two-goal lead prior to Matthew Upson s reply.

Germany went on to triumph 4-1 and finished third at the tournament in South Africa, but England will always wonder what might have been had referee Jorge Larrionda allowed Lampard s strike to stand.

It is a weakened Germany outfit that will take to the Wembley Stadium pitch this t…

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insisted he will never return to Barcelona amid intense pressure on Spanish boss Luis Enrique.

Luis Enrique s position at Camp Nou is under threat following Barcelona s 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday.

The 46-year-old, who has won two LaLiga titles as well as the Champions League since replacing Gerardo Martino in 2014, is out of contract at the end of the season.
